The prevalence of dental implants in patient care is at its peak, and yet a consensus on a standard care regimen remains out of reach for dental professionals. Current data suggests that inflammation associated with implants is a frequent occurrence, potentially leading to loss of the implant and escalating failure rates. Implant diseases span from mucositis to the more severe bone loss implantitis. The longevity of an implant largely relies on effective prevention, treatment, and maintenance strategies. It is thus crucial for the dental team, particularly the dental hygienist, to adopt successful protocols and tools to improve implant health and longevity.

Learning objectives:

  • Improve diagnostic skills and enhance the ability to differentiate between implantitis and mucositis.
  • Cultivate communication skills to effectively educate patients about their disease with ingenious home oral hygiene systems to boost patient compliance.
  • Understand the relative advantages of local vs. systemic antibiotics in detoxification and decontamination.
  • Implement safe, at-the-chair anti-inflammatory biofilm control techniques with advanced technology, such as medicinal air delivery.

This course is designed for dentists and hygienists.
